Tape-in hair extensions are great if you want to temporarily lengthen your hair, boost volume or add in some highlights. This type of hair extensions are relatively easy to put in and do not require special heat tools.

Tape in hair extensions can be applied at home without the assistance of a stylist. We are gonna show you how to put in tape-in hair extensions yourself in 6 easy steps while keeping your natural hair safe!

step one.

Start by calling over your bff and preparing your work station: tape-ins out, a brush, a rat tail comb, clips and your fav styling tools for the end.

step two.

Part your hair horizontally about an inch from the nape of your neck. Use hair clips to secure all the hair above the part line. Just make sure it's completely secured. You do not want any hair falling down and getting in the way while you're taping your extensions. You will apply the tape hair extensions near the line made by the part. This way, the hair on top will hide the tapes. Our tape-in hair extensions are great for thin hair as well!

step three.

Grab a thin portion of your hair from the non-clipped part. The strand of hair you're sandwiching needs to be very thin, about 1⁄8 inch (0.3 cm). This is so the adhesive tape on both sides can stick together through the hair. If your fingers can feel one another through the hair, your  tape extensions are good to go!

step four.

Before taping the first hair extension to your own hair, measure the section of hair that you parted. This way, you can determine how many pieces you'll need to add along that section of hair straight. Do this for every section.

step five.

You should avoid taping wefts too close to the top of your head though, so you have enough hair left to cover the last row of tape-ins.

Pro tip: to make sure the tapes aren’t too stiff in smaller areas like around your temple line, cut a weft in half to gain more mobility for the strands framing your face.

step six.

You will have to be careful while wearing the tape-ins, as they're very prone to
tangling. Brush your hair more frequently and take some extra time in the shower. Only use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner!

hair tips.

All you need in order to remove your tape-in extensions all by yourself is a good quality tape remover. You can get a specialized one, or just opt for your favorite heavy hair oil.

After you have successfully removed all the tape in hair extensions, your natural hair will feel sticky and oily at the same time. Wash your hair and use a moisturizing conditioner. It would also help if you continuously brush your hair from roots to ends while letting your hair strands soak and absorb the conditioner. See this guide on how to take care of hair extensions.

Now that you have removed all the tape in hair extensions, set your hair extensions aside and remember that you can still reuse them. All you have to do is replace the tapes and follow the same process!
